Sekayu Recreational Forest

The Sekayu Recreational Forest is at Kuala Berang, 60 km south-west of Kuala Terengganu.

The main attraction here is the Sekayu Waterfall tumbling over seven tiers. There is a fruit orchard, a bird park, a mini zoo and a resthouse at its base. There are gazebos for family picnics and public facilities for bathing and changing.


The Pelagat Forest Reserve

Located in Besut, the Pelagat Forest Reserve is noted for the Lata Tembakah Waterfalls area.

There are facilities for jungle trekking, swimming and camping. Nearby are some hot springs called L.A. Hot Springs.


Sungai Ceralak Waterfalls

There are two waterfalls at Sungai Ceralak. The first, known as Jeram Solo, is about 12m high, while the second, at 24m, is called Jeram Padang. The area has attractive trees and various species of wild flowers. The surrounding hills provide a scenic backdrop for photographers.

Getting there is an adventure in itself as it requires a boat ride from Kuala Jengai to Kuala Sungai Ceralak. Once there, it takes a jungle hike and a river crossing across the Sungai Ceralak to get to the waterfalls. Another route uses logging trails and jungle tracks.

Lake Kenyir

About 10km from Kuala Serang and about 55 km from Kuala Terengganu is Tasik Kenyir, Asia's largest man-made lake. Covering an area of 369sq.km., it is the site of Malaysia's largest hydroelectric dam.

When the area was inundated with water, most of the hills were above the water level, creating about 340 man-made islands. Surrounded by a lush tropical jungle, the Kenyir Lake is a popular retreat for nature lovers, anglers, photo enthusiasts and fun seekers.

There are facilities for fishing, swimming, canoeing, boating and jungle trekking. The lake has a wide variety of freshwater fish. Accommodation in houseboats, floating chalets and lakeside resorts is available.

Tanjung Mentong

Taman Negara. or the National Park, can be accessed from Terengganu. You have to take a boat across Kenyir Lake and arrive at the Tanjung Mentong Ranger Station.

Chemerong Waterfall (The highest waterfall in Malaysia)

Terengganu is famous for her numerous waterfalls and rapids. Chemerong Waterfall, situated 30km away from the town of Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah, thunders magnificently down a 305m slope. The Chemerong Waterfall offers untouched, diverse riches of nature and wildlife.

With its basic facilities, the jungle trekking to the waterfall offers an unforgettable adventure. Worth the effort, the coolness and the thundering sound of the waterfall refreshes the weariest of travelers.

Lata Tembakah

The Lata Tembakah Recreational Forest, 118km from Kuala Terengganu and 30km from Besut, is a tourist destination which holds the promise of a peaceful encounter with nature at its most serene.

Its distant location from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Terengganu may prove to be the ideal place in your search for peaceful thoughts. Your presence here will be greeted by the lush greenery of its tropical rainforest, teeming with flora and fauna. Its natural beauty is bound to mesmerise you the moment you step into the forest.

Its clean, flowing river, which meanders amongst its lush vegetation, exudes an aura of refreshing calmness. The source of this river comes from a seven-tiered waterfall complete with rapids and small pools. For those who love frolicking in water, this is it!

With the sound of waterfalls in the background, the orchestra of crickets, cicadas and other insects will urge on your continued presence in this forest. When you are here, gaze around you, relax your mind and take in a whiff of its crisp fresh air - this could be your perfect holiday destination.

Lata Belantan

Located about 130 km from Kuala Terengganu and 40km from Besut, it is easily accessible by all forms of road transport. The cascading Lata Berangin waterfall is an ideal spot to rest after a tiring and strenuous jungle trek.

Challenging activities such as jungle trekking and abseiling are popular with visiting tourists and team-building groups. There are 3 trails of different levels of difficulty. However, all these trails will take visitors through several interesting places such as Lata Berangin, Batu Katak, Gua Bahtera and others.
