Shopping in Perak, Malaysia

There are many modern shopping centres and supermarkets in Ipoh and other major towns. Retail shops stock all manner of merchandise including clothing and electrical goods. For some local flavour, bargains can be had from street bazaars or pasar malam's (night markets), which sells a colourful assortment of goods including handicrafts, clothing, household utensils, fresh fruits and vegetables.

Located within easy reach from the town centre, the main shopping centres in Ipoh are Plaza Ocean, Super Kinta, Kinta City, Ipoh Parade and Green Town Mall.

Handicraft

Mainly found in the Royal Town Kuala Kangsar, traditional handicraft is a prominent cottage industry. Several shops sell earthenware, bamboo carvings and handicraft made from seashells.

Perak is known for black sayong pottery and tekat, or golden thread embroidery. Most centers have demonstrations of their weaving and craftwork. Also widely available are batik and rich silk cloths.
